Cyclone Gulab: Deep Depression Weakens Into Depression; Heavy Rains Likely In S Odisha

Bhubaneswar: The deep depression (remnant of cyclonic storm Gulab) has weakened into a depression over north Telangana and adjoining south Chattisgarh and Vidarbha.

The deep depression over South Odisha and adjoining south Chhattisgarh moved west-northwestwards with a speed of 33 kmph during last 6 hours, weakened into a depression and lay centered at 1730 hrs IST over north Telangana and adjoining south Chhattisgarh and Vidarbha, about 65 km east-southeast of Ramagundam (Telangana) and 125 km northeast of Bhadrachalam (Telangana).

It is likely to move west-northwestwards and weaken into a well -marked low pressure area during the next 24 hours. The system is likely to emerge into northeast Arabian Sea and adjoining Gujarat coast around September 30 evening and there is likelihood for the system to further intensify over northeast Arabian Sea during the subsequent 24 hours.

The IMD has issued rain and thunderstorm with lightning alert for the week.

Orange warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall has been forecast at one or two places over the districts of Nabarangpur, Koraput, Rayagada and Malkangiri.

Yellow Warning (heavy rainfall) has been issued for the districts of Nuapada, Balangir, Gajapati, Ganjam and Kalahandi.

Yellow Warning (from 0830 hrs of September 28 to 0830 hrs of September 29): Thunderstorm with lightning very likely over the districts of Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Dhenkanal, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack and Jagatsinghpur.

Yellow Warning (from 0830 hrs of September 29 to 0830 hrs of September 30): Heavy rainfall very likely over the districts of Balasore, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh and Bhadrak.

Thunderstorm with lightning is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Khurda, Puri, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Deogarh and Sundargarh.

Yellow Warning (from 0830 hrs of September 30 to 0830 hrs of October 1): Heavy rainfall very likely over the districts of Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh and Keonjhar.

Squally wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph, is very likely to prevail over westcentral and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal off Odisha coast during next 6 hours and decrease thereafter, stated the IMD. The wind will prevail in Nabarangpur, Koraput, Rayagada and Malkangiri districts, the IMD added.
