Bhubaneswar: The deep depression over northwest and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal has intensified into cyclonic storm ‘Gulab’ and lay centred about 370 km east-southeast of Gopalpur.
In a special bulletin on Saturday evening, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said the deep depression was moving nearly westwards with a speed of 7 kmph in the last 6 hours.
At 5.30 pm, it lay centered over northwest and adjoining westcentral Bay of Bengal near latitude 18.3°N and longitude 88.3°E, about 370 km east-southeast of Gopalpur in Odisha and 440 km east of Kalingapatnam in Andhra Pradesh.
The systems is likely to move nearly westwards and cross north Andhra-South Odisha coasts between Kalingapatnam and Gopalpur around Sunday evening.
The IMD has issued a Yellow Warning and forecast heavy rainfall in Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Ganjam, Nayagarh, Kandhamal and Cuttack till Sunday morning.
It has also forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall in Kandhamal, Ganjam, Rayagada, Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur and Gajapati from September 26 to 27 morning under the influence of the cyclonic storm.
