Bhubaneswar: With the landfall process of Cyclone Gulab between Gopalpur and Visakhapatnam off the South Odisha coast scheduled to begin from Sunday evening, the state government has opened a control room for proper monitoring of the rescue and relief works.
The control room has been opened in the chamber of special secretary, Fisheries and Animal Resources Development (ARD) Department, Biswamohan Ray, with the telephone number 0674-2393958. It will remain open for 24 hours every day from Sunday till September 28.
The state control room will be monitored by two nodal officers. While Ray will remain in charge of disaster management, joint secretary Manoj Behera will look after the functioning of the control room, official sources said.
The state government has directed Behera to keep in touch with the office of the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) and other line departments. He has also been asked to not sanction leave to any official and direct them to stay in their respective headquarters.
