Bhubaneswar: The remnants of Cyclone Jawad, which has fizzled into a deep depression, now lay centered about 120 km from Puri and 90 km from Gopalpur, India Meteorological Department (IMD) DG Mrutyunjay Mohapatra said on Sunday.
Currently, the deep depression is moving at a speed of 20 kmph, he said.
Ganjam, Khurda, Nayagarh and Puri are likely to experience heavy rainfall during the next 12 hours, he said.
Already the coastal districts, from Ganjam to Kendrapara, are witnessing rainfall under the influence of the system.
According to IMD data, Khalikote in Ganjam district recorded 158 mm rainfall, followed by Nayagarh (107 mm), Chhatrapur in Ganjam (86.6 mm), Banpur in Khurda (81 mm) and Ersama in Jagatsinghpur district (68 mm).
Squally winds packing speeds of 50-60 kmph gusting to 70 kmph are now prevailing over northwest and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal. It would gradually decrease to 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph over northwest and adjoining westcentral Bay of Bengal by Sunday evening. It would decrease further to 30-40 kmph gusting to 50 kmph over northwest Bay of Bengal by Sunday night, the IMD said.
