Cyclone Yaas: Naval Ships & Aircrafts On Standby For Rescue & Relief Operations
With the low pressure in North Andaman Sea likely to intensify into severe cyclonic storm Yaas and hit the coast between north Odisha and West Bengal around May 26, Indian Navy is geared up for rescue and relief operations.
Headquarters, Eastern Naval Command, and Naval Officers-in-Charge at West Bengal and Odisha Area are closely monitoring the movement of Cyclone Yaas.
The authorities have carried out preparatory activities and are constantly liaisoning with the State administrations to provide assistance as and when required.
Four naval ships are on standby with Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) bricks, diving and medical teams to render assistance in the most affected areas along the Odisha and West Bengal coasts.
Also, naval aircrafts are ready at Naval Air Stations, INS Dega at Visakhapatnam and INS Rajali near Chennai for aerial survey of most-affected areas, casualty evacuation and air-dropping relief material as and when required.
