Bhubaneswar: Indian Navy personnel have been engaged in rescue and relief operations in Balasore district which saw large scale damage and devastation due to Cyclone Yaas after its landfall on Wednesday morning.
The team was dispatched from INS Chilika and the operation is being directly monitored by Naval Officer-in-Charge (Odisha).
The Naval officer has set up communication with the Balasore Collector and has chalked out a plan to make arrangements for diving as well as flood relief assistance.
A quick reaction medical team is also kept on standby for deployment at the site for people requiring immediate health check-up.
The team has distributed nearly 200 assorted relief food material packets in Chandipur area and is planning to distribute the same in the northern sector of Balasore district on Friday.
The team is also geared up to set up a community kitchen for nearly a thousand people in consultation with state authorities in the primary affected areas.
Four Naval ships of Eastern Naval Command, carrying HADR material is also planned to enter Dhamra port on Thursday to provide necessary relief to the affected populace of Bhadrak district.
