Cyclonic Circulation Over Bay In 24 Hours; Rain Intensity In Odisha To Increase From Tomorrow
Bhubaneswar: A cyclonic circulation is likely to form over northwest Bay of Bengal within 24 hours, which may trigger heavy to very heavy rain at some places in Odisha between July 19 and July 22, the regional centre of India Meteorological Department (IMD) tweeted on Tuesday morning.
Fairly widespread to widespread rainfall with isolated heavy falls is very likely over Odisha during next 5 days. Meanwhile, southern districts of the state are experiencing rain under the impact of a system, which weakened on Sunday, it added.
In the last 24 hours, 1 place in the state recorded extreme heavy rain, 3 saw very heavy rain while heavy rain lashed 12 places. Gudvela in Balangir recored the highest rainfall of 296.4mm followed by Thuamul Rampur (189 mm) and Karlamunda (184 mm) in Kalahandi, the weather agency said.
The MeT office had earlier warned of heavy rain at one or two places over the districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam and Puri on July 18. Heavy rainfall warning continues for some places in Malkangiri, Koraput, Nawarangapur, Nuapada, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Ganjam, Nayagarh, Puri, Khurda, Jagatsinghpur and Cuttack during the subsequent 24 hours (July 19).
On July 20, Heavy to very heavy rainfall may occur at one or two places in Ganjam, Puri, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada and Kandhamal with heavy rain in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Cuttack, Khurda, Nayagarh, Gajapati, Dhenkanal, Angul, Boudh, Sonepur, Balangir, Bargarh and Kalahandi.
Heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected at one or two places in Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Puri, Angul, Jajpur, Boudh, Sonepur, Sambalpur, Deogarh and Bargarh on July 21. Heavy rainfall is also likely at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapada, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Bolangir, Nuapada and Nabarangapur.
