Bhubaneswar: With some parts of the north interior, north and south coastal districts of Odisha receiving moderate rainfall in the last 24 hours, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday predicted increased with heavy rainfall in seven districts under the influence of a cyclonic circulation.

“An east-west trough running from a cyclonic circulation over north-east Madhya Pradesh and neighbourhood to west Assam across north Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand and Gangetic West Bengal has become active. Under its influence, the rainfall activity in Odisha will increase with heavy rainfall in seven districts on Tuesday,” the IMD said in a mid-day bulletin.

The national weather agency has issued orange and yellow warning over the following districts.

April 21
(Orange warning)
Thunderstorm with lightning and thunder squall speed reaching 50-60 kmph at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Khurda, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Jagatsinghpur, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj. Also, heavy rainfall/hailstorm at one or two places over the districts of Dhenkanal, Angul, Cuttack, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Balasore and Kendrapara.

Thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph at one or two places over the districts of Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Nayagarh, Puri, Ganjam, Boudh, Kalahandi and Kandhamal.

April 22
(Yellow warning)

Thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph at one or two places over the districts of Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nayagarh and Ganjam.

April 24
(Yellow warning)

Thunderstorm with lightning accompanied with gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph at one or two places over the districts of Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Dhenkanal, Kendrapara, Angul and Sonepur.

April 25
(Yellow warning)

Thunderstorm with lightning accompanied with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph at one or two places over the districts of Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Balangir, Nuapada, Boudh, Nayagarh, Mayurbhanj and Keonjhar.

The rainfall recorded in the last 24 hours till 5.30 pm on Tuesday was highest in Phulbani at 58 mm followed by Keonjhar (18), Talcher (14), Paradip (14), Balasore (11), Baripada (10) and Daringbadi (5).

Due to the rainfall activity, the maximum day temperature is likely to be below normal by 2-3 degree Celsius over the districts of north Odisha during next two days.
