Bhubaneswar: Even as rainfall activity began in some parts of western and southern Odisha last night under the influence of a cyclonic circulation and a trough line, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday issued yellow warning for heavy rainfall at one or two places in seven districts in the next 24 hours.
Talking to the media here, duty officer of Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar, Amin Sardar said under the influence of a cyclonic circulation over east Uttar Pradesh and neighbourhood and a trough line from north Konkan to north Bihar across Madhya Pradesh and south Uttar Pradesh, the rainfall activity in Odisha will continue till the next 48 hours.
He said the IMD has forecast thunderstorm with lightning and light to moderate rainfall with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph at one or two places in Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Bargarh and Sonepur between 11.30 am and 3.30 pm on Monday.
The duty officer further said that the yellow warning for heavy rainfall has been issued at one or two places in Sambalpur and Deogarh on February 25 and Puri, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Kendrapara and Jajpur on February 26.
Apart from this, thunderstorm with lightning is likely to occur at one or two places in north interior Odisha, Cuttack, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Sonepur, Boudh and Nayagarh on February 25 and coastal Odisha, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, Kandhamal and Boudh on February 26, he added.
He also said that the IMD has also issued a two-day yellow warning for one or two places in Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Deogarh and Keonjhar districts on February 27 and coastal Odisha, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Angul, Dhenkanal, Deogarh and Keonjhar on February 28.
Meanwhile, the rainfall recorded in the last 24 hours till 8.30 am on Monday was the highest in Sambalpur at 13.6 mm followed by Hirakud (8.8), Boudh (6.3), Sundargarh (4) and Jharsuguda (2.4).
