Bhubaneswar: Cyclone ‘Dana’ intensified into a severe cyclonic storm late on Wednesday.
“The cyclonic storm ‘Dana’ over Eastcentral & adjoining Westcentral Bay of Bengal moved north-northwestwards with a speed of 15 kmph during past 6 hours, intensified into a severe cyclonic storm over Central & adjoining Northwest Bay of Bengal and lay centred at 11.30 pm, about 330 km southeast of Paradip (Odisha), 360 km south-southeast of Dhamara (Odisha) and 420 km south-southeast of Sagar Island (West Bengal),” the India Meteorological Department (IMD) informed on Thursday.
It is very likely to move northwestwards and cross north Odisha and West Bengal coasts between Puri and Sagar Island close to Bhitarkanika and Dhamra during midnight of October 24 and October 25 morning as a severe cyclonic storm with a wind speed of 100-110 kmph gusting 120 kmph, it added.
The weather agency also issued orange warning for 7 districts of Odisha, including twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, till 7 am.
Moderate to intense rain/thunderstorm with wind speed of 30 to 40 kmph likely to lash some parts of Bhadrak, Balasore, Jajpur, Cuttack, Khurda, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada and Puri districts.
People have been advised to keep a watch on the weather and move to safer places.
