Dangerous Thunderstorm & Lightning Warning For Nine Odisha Districts

Bhubaneswar: The office of Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) on Thursday issued dangerous thunderstorm and lightning alert for six districts of Odisha –  Boudh, Nayagarh, Dhenkanal, Angul, Keonjhar, Khurda, Cuttack, Ganjam and Deogarh.

Quoting Earth Networks, the SRC said that dangerous thunderstorm and lightning is likely to occur at Banspal, Patana, Harichandanpur, Telkoi, Jhumpura and Ghatgaon blocks in Keonjhar district and Pallahara block in Angul district by 6:14 pm.

A similar forecast was issued for Kankadahad block in Dhenkanal district, Talcher, Kaniha, Chhendipada, Pallahara blocks in Angul district and Reamal block in Deogarh district by 5.49 pm.

Alert has also been sounded for Kankadahad, Parjanga and Kamakhyanagar blocks in Dhenkanal District within 7.50 pm and Hindol block in Dhenkanal district, Narsinghpur block in Cuttack district and Angul block in Angul district within 8.58 pm.

Daspalla and Nuagaon blocks in Nayagarh district, Chakapad block in Kandhamal district and Jagannathprasad block in Ganjam district are likely to experience dangerous thunderstorm and lightning within 8.07 pm.

Nuagaon, Khandapada, Bhapur and Nayagarh blocks in Nayagarh district and Bolagarh block in Khurda district will witness the same within 8.22 pm.

An alert was earlier issued for Harbhanga block in Boudh district and Gania, Dasapalla blocks in Nayagarh district by 5.31 pm.

The Regional Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar had also issued moderate thunderstorm and lightning alert for 11 districts, including Angul, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Dhenkanal, Ganjam, Keonjhar, Sundergarh, Jharsuguda, Mayurbhanj, Balasore and Bhadrak, between 4:30 pm and 6: 30 pm for Thursday.

According to its evening bulletin, the cyclonic circulation over west Assam and neighbourhood now lies over Assam and Meghalaya and neighbourhood at 1.5 km above mean sea level. The trough from this cyclonic circulation to northeast Jharkhand across West Bengal extending up to 0.9 km above mean sea level has become less marked. A cyclonic circulation extending upto 0.9 km above mean sea level lies over interior Odisha and neighbourhood.

Under its influence, one or two places in Jajpur, Gajapati and Kandhamal received rain while the weather remained dry in the rest of Odisha. The highest maximum temperature of 38.60 degree Celsius was recorded at Sonepur and the lowest minimum temperature of 16.50 degree Celsius at Sundargarh in the plains of Odisha, it added.

While the weatherman has predicted no change in day temperature in the next 24 hours, it is likely to come down by two to three degrees thereafter.
