Besides, the temperature remained below 10 degrees Celsius in Sonepur (7.5), Sambalpur (9.5) and Angul (9).

Besides, places, where the night temperature remained at 12 degrees and below, are Balasore (11.4), Baripada (12), Jharsuguda (10.4), Keonjhar (10.3), Hirakud (12.1), Talcher (12.3), Bhawanipatna (10.4),
Balangir (11.5), Koraput (11.2), Phulbani (10) and Titlagarh (12.1).

The night temperature in Cuttack and Bhubaneswar was recorded at 12,4 and 15.3 degrees Celsius respectively.

Talking to mediapersons here, duty officer of Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar, Charan Behera said the night temperature in most places of Odisha will fall by 4-5 degree Celsius in the next 12 hours.

“As the cyclonic circulation over the sub-Himalayan West Bengal and adjoining Bangladesh at 1.5 km above mean sea level has become less marked, the condition is favourable for the intense cold wave in Odisha which will continue till next week,” Behera added.

He also said that light rain or thunder shower will occur at one or two places in  Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Sambalpur, Bargarh, Jharsuguda and Nuapada on January 8 and at some places in the state on January 9.

The duty officer also informed that due to the presence of adequate moisture in the atmosphere, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued yellow warning for dense fog in north coastal Odisha, Angul, Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Khurda and Puri for two days starting Monday.
