Bengaluru: A day after imposing night curfew as a reaction to the new coronavirus strain found in the UK, the Karnataka government on Thursday withdrew the order.
Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa said that he held a meeting with state government officials and ministers following a public outcry over the decision and decided to withdraw the order.
Night curfew was to come into effect throughout the state from Thursday night — 11 pm to 5 am – and was supposed to continue till January 2.
Other regulations will, however, be in place. As per a circular issued by the state government, all passengers arriving in Karnataka from any country without a COVID-19 negative report will have to undergo mandatory tests.
“The returnees should have a COVID-19 negative certificate issued within 72 hours from time of departure. Otherwise they will be mandatorily subjected to an RT-PCR test for COVID-19 at Bengaluru International airport, Mangaluru International Airport, Mangaluru seaport and Karwar seaport,” the circular stated.
