Death Toll In Cyclone Fani Increases To 64
Bhubaneswar: The death toll in Cyclone Fani, which battered Odisha on May 3, has touched 64.
According the latest report by the State Emergency Operation Centre, the highest number of human casualties (39) have been reported from Puri, followed by nine in Khurda, six in Cuttack, four in Mayurbhanj and three each in Kendrapara and Jajpur districts.
Among the 64, 20 died due to falling of tree/electric pole/hoarding, 25 in wall collapse and six after roof/asbestos sheets fell on them. The circumstances under which 13 others died are yet to be ascertained, the report added.
The cyclone has left its imprints in 14 districts – Angul, Balasore, Bhadrak, Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Ganjam, Jagatsinghpur, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Keonjhar, Khordha, Mayurbhanj, Nayagarh and Puri.
