Abu Dhabi: Five Indian nationals sustained injuries when falling debris from Iranian-launched missiles and drones triggered blazes in an Abu Dhabi industrial zone early on Saturday, as UAE air defences mounted a robust response to the latest barrage in the Gulf’s escalating tensions.
According to a statement from the Abu Dhabi Media Office, two fires erupted near Khalifa Economic Zones Abu Dhabi (KEZAD), the expansive industrial and free-trade hub managed by AD Ports Group. Authorities linked the incidents to debris from the “successful interception” of a ballistic missile.
All five injured individuals are Indian nationals, with injuries described as ranging from minor to moderate. Emergency responders rushed to the scene, extinguishing the flames and providing medical aid. Officials noted the fires were fully contained, but the broader security posture stays vigilant.
The public received clear instructions to trust only official channels for information and avoid spreading unverified reports. Early Saturday alerts from UAE authorities—at 3:26 a.m., followed by 4:05 a.m. and 6:24 a.m.—directed residents to seek shelter and heed guidance amid the interceptions.
The Ministry of Defence explained that the resounding booms and sonic disturbances echoing nationwide stemmed from air-defence systems neutralizing ballistic missiles, while fighter jets targeted cruise missiles and drones. Residents were cautioned against approaching or touching any debris, with directives to report sightings immediately to emergency services.
