Bhubaneswar: A minor flood is expected in Subarnarekha and Budhabalanga rivers of Odisha in the next 30 hours, said Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) Pradeep Kumar Jena in a press conference here on Saturday.
“Heavy rain has been predicted in Mayurbhanj and Balasore districts due to the deep depression. Jharkhand has also received heavy rains due to the system,” Jena said.
“The water is likely to reach Odisha in the next 30 hours. Due to this, a minor flood is anticipated in Subarnarekha and Budhabalanga rivers,” he said.
Seven gates of Galudih Barrage in Jharkhand have been opened in view of heavy rainfall. Around four lakh cusecs of water are being released through the barrage.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast that the deep depression will move west-northwestwards across Jharkhand and north Chhattisgarh towards north Madhya Pradesh during the next 24 hours and weaken gradually.
An orange warning has been issued to Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Deogarh, Sambalpur, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Balangir, Sonepur, Boudh and Bargarh districts while a yellow warning has been sounded to Mayurbhanj, Angul, Nuapada, Koraput, Rayagada and Nabarangpur till 8.30 am Sunday.
