Bhubaneswar: Odisha experienced cloudy weather and windy conditions due to Deep Depression over southwest Bay of Bengal on Friday.
It drizzled in Bhubaneswar this morning with massive cloud mass associated with the system forming along the coasts.
Yellow warning of light rain has been issued for some parts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jgatsinghpur, Dhenkanal, Cuttack (including Cuttack city), Puri, Khurda (including Bhubaneswar), Nayagarh, Ganjam and Gajapati districts till 1.50 pm.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the Deep Depression over southwest Bay of Bengal moved north-northwestwards with a speed of 7 Kmph during past 6 hours and lay centred at 5.30 am, about 260 km northeast of Trincomalee, 310 km east of Nagapattinam, 360 km eastsoutheast of Puducherry and 400 km southeast of Chennai. “It is very likely to move northwestwards and cross north Tamil Nadu-Puducherry coasts between Karaikal and Mahabalipuram close to Puducherry around morning of November 30 as a Deep Depression with a wind speed of 55-65 kmph gusting to 75 kmph,” it added.
The weather agency had earlier stated that the system will have no direct impact on Odisha but may trigger rains in several parts of the state due to moisture incursion. It had forecast partly cloudy sky with one or two spells of rain/thundershower for three days in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack.
Light to moderate rain may also occur at one or two places in Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Cuttack, Khurda, Nayagarh, Gajapati, Ganjam, Rayagada, Malkangiri and Koraput districts on November 29, and Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Deogarh, Sundargarh, Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Kalahandi, and Nabarangpur on November 30.
HEAVY RAIN FORECAST
✓ Isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall may occur at a few places with extremely heavy falls at isolated places in north Tamil Nadu on November 29-30. Heavy to very heavy rainfall with extremely heavy falls is also likely at isolated places in south Andhra Pradesh & Yanam and Rayalaseema on November 29.
✓ Heavy to very heavy rainfall may occur at isolated places in Kerala & Mahe, South Interior Karnataka on November 30 and December 1, Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam & Rayalaseema on November 3 and Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal on December 1.
✓ Heavy rainfall is also likely at isolated places in Kerala & Mahe on December 2; South Interior Karnataka on November 29 & December 2, Andaman & Nicobar Islands on November 30 and Lakshadweep on December 2-3.
SEA CONDITION
Rough to very rough sea conditions is very likely over southwest Bay of Bengal adjoining areas of westcentral Bay of Bengal, Gulf of Mannar and along & off Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, south Andhra Pradesh and east Sri Lanka coasts till November 30.
