Deep Depression To Trigger Extremely Heavy Rain In Odisha; Check IMD Warnings For 3 Days

Bhubaneswar: Heavy to very heavy rain coupled with gusty wind is likely to pound several areas in Odisha as the deep depression moved to Gangetic West Bengal, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Saturday.

The deep depression moved west-northwestwards with a speed of 28 kmph during past six hours and lay centred over Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining Bangladesh, 50 km northeast of Kolkata.

It is likely to continue to move west-northwestwards across Gangetic West Bengal and maintain its intensity of deep depression on Saturday. Thereafter, it will continue to move west-northwestwards across Jharkhand and north Chhattisgarh as a depression during subsequent 48 hours.

Under its influence, Odisha is likely to experience a wet spell during till September 16.

The IMD has issued a red warning for several areas till the morning of Sunday and said isolated heavy to very heavy falls (7 to 20cm) with isolated extremely heavy rainfall (>20cm) & thunderstorm with lightning may occur at isolated places in the districts of Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore during the period.

Flash flood/water logging may occur in low lying areas, while some damage may be caused to informal/kutcha road and vulnerable kutcha houses. People have been advised to avoid staying in vulnerable kutchha houses and follow advisory on traffic congestion before leaving for your destination.

Orange warning: Heavy to very heavy rain (7 to 20cm) & thunderstorm with lightning may occur at isolated places in the districts of Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Angul, Dhenkanal.

Yellow Warning: Heavy rain (7 to 11cm) & thunderstorm with lightning very likely to occur at isolated places in the districts of Deogarh, Sundargarh, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Nayagarh, Boudh, Sambalpur, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Ganjam, Gajapati, Nawarangpur. 2) Thunderstorm with lightning very likely to occur at isolated places in the districts of Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Puri, Khurda, Sonepur, Nuapada, Bolangir, Koraput, Malkangiri.

Orange warning (Be Prepared to take action) Heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20cm) & thunderstorm with lightning very likely to occur at isolated places in the districts of Sundergarh, Jharsuguda, and Sambalpur.

Yellow Warning (Be Aware) Heavy rainfall (7 to 11cm) & thunderstorm with lightning very likely to occur at isolated places in the districts of Deogarh, Angul, Keonjhar, Sonepur, Bargarh, Mayurbhanj.

Sept 16

Yellow Warning: Heavy rainfall (7 to 11cm) is likely to occur at isolated places in the district of Sundergarh.

Wind Warning:

Squally wind speed reaching 50-60 kmph gusting to 70 kmph is likely to over north Bay of Bengal and along & off north Odisha coast till night of Saturday. It is likely to become 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph till evening of September 15 and decrease thereafter. Squally wind speed reaching 45-55 kmph gusting to 50 kmph likely over Gangetic west Bengal (including Kolkata) and adjoining north Odisha from night of Saturday till morning of Sunday.

Sea Condition: Rough to very rough sea condition is very likely to prevail over north Bay of Bengal and along & off Odisha coast till today, the 14th September. Rough sea condition is likely to prevail over north Bay of Bengal and along & off Odisha coast from 15th till morning of 16th September.

Fishermen Warning: Fishermen are advised not to venture into north Bay of Bengal and along & off Odisha coasts till morning of 16th September.
