Mumbai: The actress who had accused filmmaker Anurag Kashyap of rape has unconditionally apologized to fellow-actress Richa Chadha, who had filed a defamation suit against her for making controversial remarks.
The actress’ lawyer told the Bombay High Court on Tuesday that she regrets her statements. “She said it innocently. She is a big follower of the plaintiff (Chadha) and respects her. She is ready to withdraw the statement and tender an apology. She regrets whatever she said and her intention was never to defame any woman,” lawyer Nitin Satpute was quoted as saying by PTI.
Veerendra Tulzapurkar and Saveena Bedi Sachar, Chadha’s lawyers, accepted the apology and said she won’t claim damages.
Chadha had filed a ₹ 1.1 crore defamation suit against the actress and claimed that the latter’s remarks resulted in “tarnishing her reputation” and “subjected her to immense humiliation, ridicule, unwanted speculation, harassment, harsh public scrutiny and loss of business opportunities and goodwill thereby causing tremendous stress and mental agony.”
In an interview to a Telugu channel, the actress had said that Richa Chadha and Huma Qureshi got work from Kashyap in exchange for sexual favours.
