New Delhi: The defence establishment is set to create 20-30 lakh new job opportunities by 2025, the Centre on Saturday said.
Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said under the Defence Production Policy, his Ministry has set a target of US$26 billion for aerospace, defence services and goods by 2025. In this, approximately US$10 billion is targeted for creating job opportunities for 20-30 lakh people.
He said the focus is on self-sufficiency in the areas of defence systems and development. This could result in creating a good number of job opportunities, a government statement said quoting him.
He also mentioned the target set by the government is to incorporate at least 25 artificial intelligence-based products into defence in the near future.
The Defence Minister said that DRDO alone has nurtured 1,800 industries, which are actively working together to produce defence systems and asked the industry to explore new ways for enhancing synergy to achieve the goal of self-sufficiency.
