New Delhi: An Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA is in the eye of a storm after an online video showed him sitting in his undergarments while signing papers for electors in his constituency.
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta slammed Anil Jha Vats, MLA from Kirari in northwest Delhi, after the video went viral on social media.
Vats, wearing a vest and shorts, seats cross-legged in his chair with a saffron cloth draped across his lap, as he signs papers brought by people in his constituency, including a number of women who have queued up in front of his table.
The video was reportedly recorded while Vats was signing application forms for the Delhi government’s scheme for financial aid to women.

“Your behaviour is shameful. You should at least dress properly when women come to you to get their papers signed,” the chief minister chided Vats in the Delhi Assembly.
The chief minister also demanded that Vats’ Assembly membership be cancelled for his ‘shameful’ behaviour in front of women.
“This sort of indecent behaviour from an MLA cannot be tolerated. His Assembly membership should be cancelled,” Rekha said amid protests from AAP MLAs.
The CM also accused Vats of making obscene gestures during the Assembly session and demanded action against him.
Denying the chief minister’s allegation, Vats asked for video proof.
“She should show the video of me making any wrong gestures. She doesn’t have answers on people’s problems, so she is making all these allegations,” the under-fire MLA said.
