Delhi Govt Threatens To Have Its Own Board As CBSE Justifies Fee Hike; Read More

New Delhi: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on Monday defended its move to increase the fees of board exams, saying the hike was carried out after a gap of five years.

In a statement released through its official Twitter handle, CBSE said the fee has been increased for all categories of students following a resolution of the governing body of the council.

Justifying its move, the CBSE said that it is a self-financed body, which works on no-profit-no-loss basis. While SC & ST students will have to pay 24 times more, the hike for the general category students will be double of what they have been paying until now.

An estimated 30 lakh students in India and abroad are expected to be impacted by the fee hike.

1. The move has, however, evoked a sharp reaction from parents country-wide.

2. The Delhi Government has threatened to have its own board if the decision is not revoked.

3. “Our officials had a meeting with CBSE officials and urged them not to hike the examination fee as it will burden the students. Delhi is the biggest stakeholder of CBSE and our opinion should be valued. This way, we might be forced to consider having our own board,” Delhi’s Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia told PTI.

4. President of All India Parents Association Ashok Agarwal told Odisha Bytes in a statement that such move was “unconstitutional” and that they have demanded immediate rollback of the announcement.

5. The Odisha Abhibhabak Mahasangha has requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi, HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal and Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik to intervene in the matter. The parent’s body urged the CM to request the Centre to withdraw this “arbitrary decision”.
