New Delhi: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Delhi Police has arrested a family member of BharatPe co-founder and former MD Ashneer Grover.
Deepak Gupta, who is married to Ashneer’s sister Madhuri Grover, was taken into custody on September 19 over alleged misappropriation of company funds, CNBC-TV18 reported.
“Deepak Gupta is currently being kept at Mandir Marg Police station. He will be produced in front of CJM, Saket Court, where police will seek remand of the accused,” MoneyControl quoted a source as saying.
Gupta was previously Head of Procurement at BharatPe’s parent company Resilient Innovation.
His wife Madhuri was earlier fired as BharatPe’s Head of Controls.

In December 2022, BharatPe filed a criminal complaint against Ashneer, Madhuri, Shwetank Jain (Madhuri’s brother), Suresh Jain (Ashneer’s father-in-law of Ashneer) and Deepak Gupta.
Ashneer and his family have been accused of causing losses to the tune of around Rs 81.3 crore. The allegations include illegitimate payments to fake human resource consultants, inflated and undue payments to vendors linked to the accused, fraudulent input-tax credit transactions, penalties paid to GST authorities, unauthorized payments to travel agencies, forged invoices by Jain, and destruction of evidence.
EOW, which filed an FIR against the five accused in the Rs 81-crore fraud in May 2023, last month arrested Amit Kumar Bansal, who allegedly received Rs 72 crore from the directors of BharatPe between 2019 and 2021.
Bansal was one of the members of non-existing firms that received the funds.
