New Delhi/Bhubaneswar: The Anti-Narcotics Squad (ANS) of the Delhi Police has dismantled a key link in an interstate ganja (cannabis) supply network operating between Odisha, Uttar Pradesh, and the Delhi-NCR region, with the arrest of Aakash Kumar Digal after a brief chase from Kandhamal district to Bhubaneswar.
The arrest followed an initial seizure on the intervening night of March 11 and 12 when two individuals — Akbar and Firoj Khan – both residents of Kela Bhatta near PAC Chowk in Ghaziabad, were apprehended while carrying carrying two white bags on a scooter. A total of 21.7 kg of ganja along with 46 grams of smack, with the contraband valued at around Rs 12 lakh, were seized from them.
During sustained interrogation, Firoj revealed that he procured ganja in bulk from Digal in Odisha and then distributed it in smaller quantities across the Delhi-NCR area. While the suspected source had switched off all his contact numbers, the ANS team carried out extensive technical analysis and conducted multiple raids across different districts in Odisha after tracing his address to a remote forested area in the Kandhamal district, which made the operation even more challenging.
Acting on this fresh intelligence inputs amid constant surveillance, the ANS team finally tracked down Digal. He was apprehended on March 26.
