New Delhi: In a shocking display of high-handedness, a Delhi Police personnel was caught on camera kicking Muslims offering namaz on the street near Inderlok here on Friday.
The culprit, sub-inspector Manoj Kumar Tomar, has been suspended.
As the video went viral on social media, Opposition parties and netizens poured scorn and criticism on Delhi Police.
DCP North Manoj Meena said a thorough inquiry has been initiated and appropriate action will be taken.
“The motto of Amit Shah’s Delhi Police is peace, service, justice… working diligently,” Congress leader Supriya Shrinate wrote on X sharing the video.

Congress MP Imran Pratapgarhi said Delhi Police should file a case against the concerned police officer. “What is this hatred? This person probably does not understand the basic tenets of humanity,” Imran wrote on X.
Muslims took to the streets to protest the incident.
DCP Meena said police spoke with the protesting people to calm them.
“We explained to them that action was taken against the police. An announcement was made through the masjid authorities,” he said.
