New Delhi: Come December, devotees of Lord Jagannath from across the globe will come to the city for a six-day international festival.
The first of its kind ‘Shree Jagannath Mahotsav’ will be held at Markandeya Bhavan in Chattarpur, Delhi from December 8-13. Gajapati Maharaj of Puri, Dibyasingha Deb, will inaugurate the congregation, according to a statement by the organisers.
During the Mahotsav, debates, discussions, exhibitions on traditions, culture and heritage associated with Lord Jagannath will be organised.
Representatives from around 50 Jagannath temples and more than 200 socio-cultural organisations from across the globe will attend the event.
It will be hosted by Shree Jagannath Chetna Samanvaya Samiti of Gurugram, a unit of Kalinga Bharati Foundation, Delhi in association with Bhubaneswar-based Shree Jagannath Sanskruti Parishad and a US-based Foundation.
“The objective of the festival is to spread awareness about the rich culture of Lord Jagannath,” said Gopinath Mohanty, the president of Shree Jagannath Sanskruti Parishad.
Akshay Mohanty, the founder of Kalinga Bharati Foundation, appealed to the people from all walks of life to participate in the festival.
