Demand For HC Bench: Sambalpur District Judge Stopped From Attending Court
Sambalpur: Reiterating their longstanding demand for establishment of a permanent bench of Orissa High Court in western Odisha, a group of agitating lawyers stopped the Sambalpur District Judge Malaya Ranjan Dash while he was on his way to the court on Thursday.
The lawyers, who had been on a strike since last two months, stopped the Judge near Court Chhak in Sambalpur and apprised him of their demand.
“We requested him to carry forward our demand to High Court for setting up the permanent bench here. The move will not only benefit the lawyers but also help people from all walks of life to access justice without hassle. The Judge listened to us and assured us that he would look into our demand,” an agitator said.
However, the Judge was unable to attend the court owing to the protest.
A number of intellectuals and senior citizens extended support to the lawyers and participated in the strike.
