Sambalpur: The long-standing demand of lawyers for establishment of a permanent High Court bench in western Odisha intensified on Wednesday with the members of Sambalpur District Bar Association staging a dharna at Nelason Mandela Chhak here.
“The association has decided to shut down all the courts in the district from today till September 20, the last day of the ongoing monsoon session of the Odisha Assembly. The agitating lawyers will also close down the Collectorate, Sub-Collectorate, offices of revenue divisional commissioner, RTO and Election Commission from tomorrow,” president of the association Bijitendra Pradhan said.
Besides, we will be holding a sit-in at this place from 10 to 5 everyday till the monsoon session of the assembly concludes. A large number of people have extended their support to make the strike successful, Pradhan added.
