Balasore: Denied permission to join Kanwar Yatra to a Shiva temple in Puri, a 13-year-old boy allegedly died by suicide at Singla area in Odisha’s Balasore district late on Monday.
The deceased has been identified as Jayakrushna Jena, a Class VIII student and son of a farmer, Santosh Jena.
According to sources, the boy took the extreme step after his parents poured cold water on his plans to visit a temple in Puri on the last Monday of the Sharvan month, with his friends. He was later found hanging with a towel from an iron rod inside the bathroom of his house. He was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital at Basta, where the doctors declared him ‘brought dead’.
Meanwhile, a relative of the deceased told the media that the boy was repeatedly reprimanded by his parents as he spent most of his time playing online games on his mobile phone and ended his life when he was stopped by his mother from doing so.
Police are yet to confirm the claims made by the deceased’s relative regarding the online game addiction.
