Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Saturday issued a two-day yellow warning for dense fog in 12 districts of Odisha.
In its morning bulletin, the IMD predicted dense fog at one or two places in of Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Khurda, Puri and Nayagarh districts on Sunday and Kandhamal, Nayagarh, Rayagada, Boudh, Koraput and Kalahandi districts on Monday.
The IMD has cautioned the state government to take necessary steps to avert possible road mishaps due to poor visibility.
Vehicular traffic came to a grinding halt in the twin cities in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack on Saturday morning due to dense fog. Several vehicles were stranded on both sides of National Highway-16 till 8 am due to poor visibility.
Apart from this, there was dense fog in some parts in Baripada, Keonjhar and Bhadrak districts in North Odisha. In Chandbali in Bhadrak district, the visbility was about 25 metres.
Meanwhile, the cold wave condition prevailed in most parts of the interior Odisha on Saturday with Phulbani recording the lowest night temperature at 9.5°C.
Besides, the temperature remained below 15°C in Boudh (14.5), Daringbadi (11), Sonepur (14.8), Koraput (12.2), Balangir (14.5), Bhawanipatna (12.6), Talcher (14.5), Sundargarh (13), Keonjhar (13.2), Jharsuguda (13.4), Baripada (13.6) and Angul (11.6).
