Bhubaneswar: Dense to very dense fog was observed in Odisha capital on Sunday morning with the visibility at several places in the city restricted to 50 metres.
A thick blanket of fog engulfed Bomikal, Rasulgarh and Palasuni from 4.30 am onwards and low visibility brought traffic to a crawl, especially on NH-16 Bhubaneswar-Cuttack road this morning, sources said.
Monday could be equally foggy with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicting dense fog at one or two places in Bhadrak, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur Jajpur, Cuttack, Khurda, Puri, Gajapati and Ganjam. Shallow to moderate fog is also likely at a few places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Puri, Khurda, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Angul, Dhenkanal and Kandhamal during this period.
Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Gajapati and Ganjam may experience shallow to moderate fog during the subsequent 24 hours.
Thereafter, Odisha may experience rain for the next two days. Light Rain is likely at one or two places in Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Cuttack and Jagatsinghpur on January 17. The MeT office has made a rain forecast for some places in Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara and Jajpur the following day.
There will be no large change in the night temperature for the next 4-5 days, it added.
Notably, Koraput was the coldest place in the state at 7.5 degree Celsius in the last 24 hours followed by G Udayagiri and Daringbadi in Kandhamal at 8.4 degree Celsius and 10 degree Celsius respectively.
