Bhubaneswar: With the low pressure in the west-central Bay of Bengal concentrating into a depression on Sunday morning, Local Cautionary Signal Number Three (LC-III) has been hoisted at Gopalpur port in Odisha’s Ganjam district.
Signal III means that a depression has formed and could affect the port. Surface winds likely between 22-27 knots (40-50 kmph). Port likely to experience squalls.
Distant Cautionary Signal No. I (DC-I) at all other ports of Odisha, the Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar, said in its midday bulletin.
Earlier in the day, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) had warned of heavy rainfall in the south coastal districts of Odisha under its impact.
The Met office had further said that it would intensify further into a deep depression during the next 24 hours and move west-northwestwards and cross north Andhra Pradesh coast between Narsapur and Visakhapatnam on Monday night.
It had forecast light to moderate rainfall is likely to occur at most places in south Odisha and coastal Andhra Pradesh from Sunday afternoon with isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall in coastal areas of Odisha and Andhra Pradesh on Monday and Tuesday.
