Bhubaneswar: Odisha is likely to experience light to moderate rainfall on December 20-21 amid the possibility of the well-marked low pressure area over Bay of Bengal intensifying into a depression in the next 12 hours.
According to India Meteorological Department, the system over southwest & adjoining westcentral Bay of Bengal moved nearly northwards and was over westcentral & adjoining southwest Bay of Bengal at 530 am. “It is likely to continue to move nearly northwards and concentrate into a depression over westcentral Bay of Bengal during the next 12 hours. Thereafter, it is likely to move north-northeastwards maintaining the intensity of depression for subsequent 24 hours,” it added.
Under its influence, the state capital has been witnessing intermittent rainfall since last night.
The weather agency had earlier forecast light to moderate rain at one or two places in Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Bolangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput and Malkangiri and at a few places in coastal Odisha on December 20 with light rain at one or two places in Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada, Puri, Khurda, Cuttack, Jajpur, Balasore, Mayurbhanj and Bhadrak on December 21.
It had also predicted a dip in the night temperature by 2-4°C from December 23.
