Depression Over South Odisha To Weaken In 24 Hours, Heavy Rain Forecast Till Sept 4

Bhubaneswar: The Depression persisted over south Odisha and adjoining north Andhra Pradesh and was about 220 km west-southwest of Gopalpur on Sunday.

“The Depression over north Andhra Pradesh and south Odisha coasts moved west-northwestwards with a speed of 15 kmph during the past 6 hours and lay centered at 5.30 am over south Odisha and adjoining north Andhra Pradesh about 90 km north-northwest of Visakhapatnam (Andhra Pradesh), 120 km west of Kalingapatnam (Andhra Pradesh), 120 km east of Malkangiri (Odisha), 120 km east-southeast of Jagdalpur (Chhattisgarh) and 220 km west-southwest of Gopalpur (Odisha) and 380 km east of Ramagundam (Telangana),” the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said in its morning bulletin.

It is likely to move west-northwestwards across South Odisha and South Chhattisgarh and weaken into a well-marked low pressure area during the next 24 hours, it added.

The weather agency has predicted fairly widespread to widespread light/moderate rainfall in Odisha during the week. Isolated heavy rainfall may continue in the state till September 4.

On the other hand, cyclonic storm “Asna” persists over northwest Arabian Sea, 640 km west of Naliya (Gujarat), 500 km west-southwest of Karachi (Pakistan), 250 km south-southwest of Pasni (Pakistan) and 440 km east of Muscat (Oman). It is likely to move southwestwards over northwest Arabian Sea and weaken gradually into a deep depression by Sunday evening and into a Depression by following morning over the same region, the IMD said.
