Bhubaneswar: A Depression has formed over southeast Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining Bangladesh, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) informed on Monday.

The IMD has issued a red alert for these three districts. It has warned of localised flooding, landslides, damage to standing crops and kutcha houses, disruption of traffic and inland water transport due to waterlogging and poor visibility.

It further stated that heavy to very heavy rain along with thunderstorm/lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may occur at one or two places in Angul, Dhenkanal, and Deogarh. Heavy to very heavy rain along with thunderstorm/lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph is also likely at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, and Kendrapada.

There is also a warning of heavy rain along with thunderstorm/lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph for one or two places in Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Sonepur, Boudh, Nayagarh, Cuttack, Khurda, Puri, Jagatsinghpur, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, and Koraput. 2)Thunderstorm with lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may also occur at one or two places in Ganjam, Gajapati, and Rayagada districts.

Squally wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph may prevail over north Bay of Bengal, along & off Odisha, West Bengal and Bangladesh coasts for the next 24 hours. Squally wind speed reaching 30- 40 kmph gusting to 50 kmph is likely over North Odisha. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into north and along & off North Odisha, West Bengal & Bangladesh coasts during this period.

Local Cautionary Signal No-III (LC-3) has been hoisted at Paradio and Dhamra ports.

The intensity of rain is likely to gradually decrease thereafter and continue till July 18, it added.
