Bhubaneswar: Deprived of basic amenities, irate residents of several villages in Odisha on Thursday refrained from exercising their franchise in the second phase of polls.
In Nayagarh district, people of 14 villages under Gumi and Dhipamal panchayats did not turn up at polling booths in protest against non-fulfilment of their basic needs.
In Kandhamal district, hundreds of people from seven villages stayed away from voting, demanding minimum infrastructure facilities for their village. Besides, people of Bagamunda village in Phiringia block also stayed away from voting in booth no-92 on the same issue.
Reports from Balangir district said the people of Bagaja, Ganapalli, Haladipadar, Kankaria and Bhainsapalli villages under Loisingha block refrained from voting due to non-availability of basic minimum facilities.
