Designer Makes A Dress With Condoms! What’s The Message?
New York: Fashion can take different shapes and forms as designers all over the world move with the times and try to innovate.
But have you heard of a dress made out of condoms?
You heard that right!
In a quirky fusion of fashion and public health, American designer Gunnar Deatherage collaborated with the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health to make a bold, statement-making dress with expired condoms.
The idea is to promote sexual health awareness.
“I made a dress out of condoms and it’s stunning,” read the caption of a YouTube video which has gone viral.
Deatherage transformed the condoms into floral shapes using pins and zip ties and then spray-painted them. These were then sewn onto the hem of a black dress. The end product was fit for the red carpet of fashion shows.
There was an overwhelming response to Gunnar’s dress.
Netizens were highly impressed by the designer’s talent and commitment to raising awareness about sexual health.
“That’s amazing! Great statement too. I’ve lost friends from HIV/AIDS, so this is a very important statement,” wrote one user.
“EXPIRED condoms people! He literally said it 15 seconds into the video,” commented another.
“Well if you forget condoms you don’t have to worry cuz your girl is already wearing it,” read another tweet.
