Balasore: DGP of Odisha, Abhay on Tuesday reviewed the police deployment on the border areas in Balasore district. He visited the Laxmannath inter-state check post and reviewed the police arrangement and instructed officials to ensure that no one from West Bengal enters Odisha amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
The move came a day after the Odisha government voiced concern over the rising number of COVID-19 cases among those returning from West Bengal.
Earlier, Abhay visited Police Barrack, Town, Sadar and Sahadebkhunta police stations. He also reviewed the police deployment at different checkpoints in the town.
Among others, RDC Anil Samal, IG Eastern Diptesh Patnaik, Balasore Collector K Sudarshan Chakraborty and SP Jugal Kishore were present during the DG’s review meetings.
It may be noted that eight persons in Balasore district tested positive for the deadly virus. The government on Monday said one third of the total COVID-19 positive cases in the state have travel history from West Bengal.
