New Delhi: Dharmendra, the ‘He-Man’ of Bollywood, will be awarded the Padma Vibhushan posthumously.
One of the most handsome male actors to have worked in the Indian film industry, Dharmendra featured in more than 300 films, including the iconic ‘Sholay’. He passed away in November, days before his 90th birthday.
While Dharmendra has been acknowledged in the field of Art, four others have been named as recipients of Padma Vibhushan this year — K T Thomas (Public Affairs), N Rajam (Art), P Narayanan (Literature and Education) and V S Achuthanandhan (Public Affairs, Posthumous).
Rohit Sharma, who led Team India to victory in the ICC T20 World Cup and also the Champions Trophy, will be honoured with the Padma Shri.
The Ministry of Home Affairs on Sunday announced the Padma awards, the country’s highest civilian honours after the Bharat Ratna.
Among Padma Bhushan awardees are singer Alka Yagnik, actor Mammootty, tennis great Vijay Amritraj, adman Piyush Pandey (Posthumous) and politician Shibu Soren (Posthumous).
The list comprises 5 Padma Vibhushan, 13 Padma Bhushan and 113 Padma Shri Awards. Nineteen of the awardees are women.
The list includes 6 persons from the category of Foreigners/NRI/PIO/OCI and 16 Posthumous awardees.

The winners are announced every year on the eve of January 26, our Republic Day.
The President of India confers these awards at ceremonial functions held at Rashtrapati Bhawan around March-April every year.
