Bhubaneswar: Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Saturday flagged off mobile LED vans from Indian Oil office at Chandrasekharpur here to propagate awareness regarding Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY).
The mobile vans will move to the interior parts of Odisha to disseminate awareness about PMUY and safe practices in a unique way.
Speaking on the occasion, the Union Minister described the initiative as a unique way of propagating awareness by way of engaging the audience through entertainment.
“A total of 5 crore gas connections have been provided under PMUY in the country till August this year, well in advance of the target. About 33 lakh gas connections under the scheme have been provided in Odisha. Of these, 52 per cent have been provided to women belonging to SC/ST community,” Dharmendra said.
As many as 10 specially-designed vehicles will work as mobile theatre and act as moving centre for collection of KYCs from prospective eligible LPG consumers.
The PMUY launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in May 2016 aims at women empowerment by providing LPG connections to those from BPL families. It also aims to safeguard the health of women and children by providing them with a clean cooking fuel.
