Bhubaneswar: The teacher-learning process in nine Kendriya Vidyalayas in Odisha is set to get a major boost with Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan inaugurating smart classroom facilities in these schools on Saturday.
In all, 12,300 students will benefit from this initiative, said a statement, adding 184 classrooms in these schools have been converted into e-classrooms.
Out of the nine KVs, six are in Bhubaneswar, two in Khurda Road and one in Cuttack.
The smart classroom initiative was piloted by oil-PSU, ONGC under its corporate social responsibility programme, entailing an investment of Rs 3.99 crore.
A smart classroom provides a complete digital learning environment. It includes a projector for displaying videos and web content and a digital chalkboard for the instructor. Such classes make the job of a Chemistry or Biology teacher much easier while explaining complex equations or biological properties.
“Today, there are a total of 400 smart classrooms functioning across the country under the initiative of ONGC at a cost of Rs 8 crore. Now we have started 184 smart classrooms in Odisha. I thank ONGC and KVs for making the e-connectivity of these classes possible,” the Union Petroleum Minister said.
“We need to use the smart classrooms well and enlarge our knowledge horizon. I am sure the students of KVs in Bhubaneswar will be great citizens in future,” he added.
The Minister said that smart classrooms should be used to create awareness among students about the effects of climate change and the pitfalls of single-use plastic on the environment.
Lok Sabha MP Aparajita Sarangi, Rajya Sabha MP Ashwini Vaishnav, Jatni MLA Suresh Kumar Routray, Deputy Commissioner of KV Sangathan, Indu Kaushik were present on the occasion.
