Dial 112: Odisha Launches Unified Helpline Number
Bhubaneswar: Taking note of the difficulties faced by people while seeking emergency help from different departments of Odisha Police, the state government on Wednesday issued a unified toll-free number.
Announcing this, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik said earlier people used to dial 100, 101, 102, 104, 108 and 181 for emergency help like police ambulance, fire services and women’s helpline. Now, for their convenience, all these numbers have been merged to a unified toll-free number 112 to enable people either seek emergency help or register their complaint easily. The decision taken by the state government will come into force with immediate effect.

To ensure expeditious help to people through the new helpline number, the Chief Minister approved the proposal for creation of 1098 posts including 4 DSPs, 151 Inspectors, 203 Assistant Sub-Inspectors and 740 constables. Apart from this, 198 call taker executives and 236 vehicles will be outsourced.
