Digital Door Numbering Kicks Off In Odisha Capital

Bhubaneswar: To create a uniform address system for all urban dwellings, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Monday launched a digital door numbering system through geo-spatial technology on a pilot basis in three wards.

With the new system, each house will be given an alphanumeric code as the first-hand identification number containing information on the exact location of the property with coded details of its address, nearby landmark, sub-road and main road.

The Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) of BMC, Srimanta Mishra, announced that Rs 3.97 crore will be spent for the digital numbering with operation and maintenance of the service for one year.

He said that in the first phase, ward no. 6 in north zone, ward no. 23 in south zone and ward no. 30 in west zone will be covered. The remaining 64 wards will be taken up in subsequent phases.

The system will be applicable for residential houses and commercial properties.

Mishra stated that the new system will help in the location of the exact address of the property and collection of property/holding tax and fees of other chargeable services, giving a boost to revenue collection.
