Bhubaneswar: The much-awaited direct flight service between Bhubaneswar and Dubai will commence on March 5, coinciding with the birth anniversary of former Chief Minister of Odisha Biju Patnaik.
The maiden direct Bhubaneswar-Dubai flight (6E 0027) will take off at 6.05 pm on March 5, marking the beginning of the international flight operations from Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA). It will reach Dubai Airport at 9.45 pm.
“Kindly note that we intend to commence operations from Bhubaneswar airport to Dubai. This will be the First International flight from Bhubaneswar airport,” IndiGo said in a release to its travel partner.
The Dubai-Bhubaneswar flight (6E 0028) will depart from the Dubai airport at 11.25 am on March 5 and arrive here at the BPIA at 5.05 pm.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik is also likely to inaugurate a walk-through museum of Biju Patnaik’s iconic Dakota aircraft at the airport on this day.
In December last year, the Odisha cabinet had given its approval to a plan to start direct flights from Bhubaneswar to Dubai, Singapore, and Bangkok. “Planes having 186 seats will be operated and the expenditure will be borne by the state government. The revenue generated from ticket sales will be retained by the state government,” Chief Secretary SC Mohapatra had then said.
