Ganjam: She is barely three feet in height, but Chhabita Rana’s disability due to dwarfism has not stopped her from helping others as an Asha Didi.
Chhabita (40), a resident of Punada village in Sheragarh block in Ganjam district, makes it a point every morning to visit the homes of needy people and pregnant women, and extend a helping hand.
She brings medicines for pregnant women in the village and also accompanies them to go to hospitals for regular check-ups and vaccinations.
Chhabita also helps needy people financially from her own meagre salary.
During the current COVID-19 pandemic, she has taken up the additional task of creating social awareness in her village.
With the help of other health workers, she has led cleanliness drives in her village and neighbouring areas, including the cleaning of all wells.
Unfortunately even as she takes care of others, there is no one to do the same for her. She has been living alone after the death of her parents.
Her struggle and social service have become an inspiration for others, said her fellow villagers.
