Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has decided to set up an advanced disaster-resilient power supply system in the twin cities of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar by December this year.
This was discussed at a high-level meeting presided over by chief secretary Asit Tripathy.
Tripathy has directed the concerned authorities to work out an advanced implementation schedule for each phase of the work and resolve the ground level issues as and when they crop up through active coordination among the Energy and General Administration departments, GRIDCO and the executing agency.
The Odisha Power Transmission Corporation Ltd (OPTCL) has been asked to expedite the implementation through close and coordinated monitoring for the completion of the entire project by end of the year. The advanced power system will be able to withstand a wind speed of 300 kmph.
The new system will meet electrical load demand up to 1300 MW and ensure 24×7 uninterrupted quality power supply at all voltage levels due to the ring supply system. It will also reduce transmission and distribution loss, electrical accidents, operation and maintenance costs and improve the aesthetic look of the city.
Through this project, the entire power transmission and distribution system will be upgraded with the installation of 20 new sub-stations of various capacities. The project, estimated to cost around Rs 1600 crore, will be funded by the state government.
