Jamnagar: The Jadejas are a divided family, thanks to different political loyalties.
With the build-up to the Gujarat Assembly election gaining steam, Team India cricketer Ravindra Jadeja’s sister and Congress campaigner Naynaba fired a fresh salvo at her sister-in-law and BJP candidate Rivaba Jadeja.
Naynaba said at a press conference on Tuesday that the Congress has filed a complaint against Rivaba for using children to campaign for the upcoming polls.
“Rivaba is using children to gain sympathy. In a way, it is called child labour. Senior officials of the Congress have filed a complaint with the Election Commission in the matter,” Naynaba told reporters.
Naynaba also wondered aloud how, despite being a voter from Rajkot West, Rivaba can contest and seek votes in Jamnagar North.
Naynaba pointed out that her sister-in-law’s official name in the election form is Riva Singh Hardev Singh Solanki.
“She has kept Ravindra Jadeja’s name in bracket and this is just to use the Jadeja surname. In the six years of her marriage, she did not get time to revise her name,” Naynaba alleged.
Rivaba is contesting from Jamnagar North as BJP candidate while Naynaba is campaigning for Congress.
Naynaba earlier said that Rivaba won’t win as she is a ‘celebrity’ candidate while the people of Jamnagar want a local leader to represent them.
Jamnagar North is among 89 Assembly constituencies where polling will be held on December 1. Voting in the remaining 93 seats will be held on December 5.
