Bhubaneswar: With Diwali being celebrated in Odisha after a gap of two years, the state government on Saturday allowed traders to sell firecrackers at seven select locations in Bhubaneswar.
The General Administration and Public Grievance Department in a letter to Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) said that permission has been granted for the temporary use of government land at 7 different patches for the purpose.
1. Sabarasahi Melan Padia at Gadakana area
2. Rasulgarh Durga Mandap at Bomikhal area
3. Palasuni Biju Patnaik Play Ground at Pandra area
4. Unit-1 High School back side at Bapuji Nagar area
5. Laxmisagar Melan Padia at Laxmisagar
6. Infront of Badagada Crematoria at Badagada area
7. Backside of BDA market at Badagada area
The applicants need to get clearance from all concerned departments like DCP Bhubaneswar, Fire, TPCODL and R&B and deposit the ground rent for selling the firecrackers during Diwali, it added.
Notably, the civic body had identified 21 locations in Odisha’s capital, including a field near the Nandankanan office at Saheed Nagar, Kasturba Sikhyashram, Indira Maidan at Nayapalli, space in front of Laxmisagar police station, ‘melana padia’ and space near Jagannath temple at Pandra, the area near BDA market at Chandrasekharpur, Prasanti Vihar Durga Puja ground and ground near the RTO office in Patia, as per the SOP of the General Administration Department for the sale of firecrackers.
