Rourkela: A fire broke out in a two-storey building at Koel Nagar in Odisha’s Rourkela, trapping a woman and her son, early on Monday.
On being informed around 8.30 am, Fire Service personnel reached the spot and rescued the mother-son duo. Two fire engines were engaged to douse the flames, which is suspected to have been triggered by a diya (lamp) lit on the occasion of Diwali.
The incidents caused panic in the area and people soon gathered on the street.
A similar fire mishap was reported on the third floor of a residential building in Sambalpur’s Khetrajpur on November 12 night. A gunny godown in the area was also reduced to ashes the same night.

A house at Santoshimandirpada, Sinapali, in Nuapada district was gutted following a fire cracker explosion during Diwali.
In Baripada, a massive fire broke out at a tent house godown at Kali Mandir Sahi in Baripada on Sunday evening. The fire, suspected to have been triggered by a sky lantern, damaged items worth several lakh rupees.
