Doctor, 2 Aides Arrested For Theft At Arogya Centre In Odisha

Koraput: A doctor and two of his associates were arrested by the police in connection with a robbery at the Arogya centre in Odisha’s Rayagada district.

The doctor was identified as Rohit Kundu (35), son of a medical officer posted at the Community Health Centre at Laxmipur in Koraput district. The other two were laboratory technician Amulya Saunta and Group IV employee Debasish Garadia, police said.

Following a complaint, police launched an investigation. The medical officer at the Rayagada centre had reported the theft of a laptop, CCTV hard disk, and official registers from the meeting hall on October 29.

During probe, police found the stolen registers in a pit within the hospital premises, suggesting the involvement of a hospital staff, Rayagada Town police station inspector in-charge KKBK Kanhar said.

The suspicion was confirmed as the accused persons admitted to the crime, he said, adding that  the suspects were taken into custody following their confession.

Kundu was recently transferred from the Arogya centre to the district headquarters hospital following allegations of dereliction of duty. During interrogation, the doctor confessed to the crime and said that some hospital staff used to disrespect him and he planned the robbery to teach them a lesson, the police official added.
